Guest Blog: A Sustainable Vision Turned Journey

February 10th, 2010

When I started my journey into Sustainable living it was in a word-frightening. The fright soon turned to amazement, then to disgust and anger, and finally to the realization that all the things I didn’t like and approve of…I could change, at least to some degree.

Living a sustainable lifestyle is a learned process.

For way too many years we have trusted others to make the decisions about what is healthy and best for us and our family’s, everything from our personal care and food, to the kind of detergent we use for our laundry.
As we enter the age of self education about these things we discover that big business doesn’t travel the same thought process as we do, in fact they don’t even see us as individuals, but instead as a number in the bottom line.

Sustainable living first has to be a changing of thought and vision, we have to want and know that we can have a better life by practicing a better way. For some it is easier than for others. Most always it involves unlearning and relearning many things. But, it is possible-and gets easier with each new discovery.

Our food is only one part of a sustainable pattern of living. Our water,  soil and air, and everything that comes from these corner-stones play a role in our decisions…and the decisions we make plays a role in those as well.

So, it’s easy to see that we really can’t isolate ourselves and focus just on me and mine.

The education can start in that pattern, but…it has to be a community, state, country, and world effort to a larger degree.

Does it sound too much to take on ?  Remember, those things that are so worthy of doing and having, seldom are easy or quick.

They are however the things that last, bring great joy and leaves a legacy to keep the change going from generation to generation.

Start with some research: Organic Consumers is a wonderful place to get a good education on where the lines should be drawn.

Separates the good from the bad and allows one to firmly decide who and what to trust or not. ( and yes, it is only two options to work from, one is good for us, the other is bad.)

You will, as I have, discover the knowledge and the process is akin to finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow~

  1. Great Story Bea,

Sustainable Living is the creation of what we will leave those who will inherit this beautiful world when we are long gone. When we all start to live with the knowledge that we all breath the same air, drink the same water and are penetrated by the same vibrations of a life giving stream, then we come into realization that we are one in each other.

A little something done in a positive direction by everyone adds up to something better then we had before and creates a movement in a sustainable direction for the good of all.

Blessings and Visions of Greatness Bea to YOU and YOURS and keep on, keeping on!!!
