Three Words

Posted by Caryn on Mar 1, 2010 in Caryn's writing, NAIWE, Words Matter Week

What is the most important word or words in your life? Why?

Love.  Gratitude.  Forgiveness.  I could live the rest of my life with only these three words and the emotions that accompany each of them.

Love.  Unconditional caring on the deepest of levels by those who support me and want nothing more than for me to be happy, healthy and succeed in all I do.

Love.  The feelings that two people who truly care about and trust each other, share in an unspoken manner.  By looking into each others eyes, we both know that the other person will always be there, in good times and bad.  Without judgment, without criticism, without question.

How To Find Your Passion

Posted by Caryn on Mar 1, 2010 in Caryn's writing

Ben RosenfeldBen Rosenfeld has written an eBook called “How To Find Your Passion.”

This 25 page book covers his decision to drop out of graduate school to pursue comedy and how you can use the lessons he has learned to find your passion before it’s too late.

This book wasn’t something he wanted to write, it was something he had to write it.

If you’re gonna read the book as embedded below, I recommend viewing it in full screen mode.

Envisioning The Day

Posted by Caryn on Feb 8, 2010 in Caryn's writing

Have you ever noticed that whatever happens during the first hour of your day will normally set the tone for the remainder of your day?

Try stubbing your toe as you step out of bed and if you don’t make the conscious decision to shake it off, you may find yourself cussing and hopping around for awhile.

Taking a moment to imagine your day before you get out of bed is a simple way to maintain a positive focus, gain clarity and set short terms goals for the day.

The alarm clock sounds, you reach over to turn it off.

He’s Still Trying To Figure It All Out

Posted by Caryn on Feb 5, 2010 in Caryn's writing, Living the life of my dreams

“Larry Cohen spent the bulk of his career in the Howard County Public School System, until his retirement in 2006. In total, he spent over 30 years in education as principal, assistant principal, teacher, pupil personnel worker, and administrative liaison.   On his 58th birthday, Larry Cohen decided that even though he still hadn’t figured all of life’s answers out, the values he had learned so far were worth sharing. In fact, the very process of trying to figure it all out is what might make the difference in the recipe for a life worth living.”   Today he is the author of “I’m Still Trying To Figure It All Out Myself….” and here to share his wisdom with us.

Be Yourself

Conformity and acceptance in the long run are more difficult to live with than standing tall and strong in your own beliefs.

Why is it you don’t have a job?

Posted by Caryn on Feb 1, 2010 in Caryn's writing

A young girl stands in the center of the room.  To her left is a crowd of her teachers, coaches, people of influence who have shared their lives with her.  At the center of her world is her dad and his friends in military uniform all smiling warming.

To her right is another crowd, this one is filled with college students’ arms outstretched and flailing, moving slowly towards her as if in a horror movie.

The young girl dressed in her freshly pressed Girl Scout uniform looks to her left, then to her right as she clutches her one remaining box of Thanks-A-Lots(tm) cookies tightly to her chest.

Calling All Angels

MichaelKellerI believe the Universe works in mysterious ways, bringing together people who are meant to be connected in this world.

When Mike Keller headed to a book signing one morning he had no idea that day he would meet a mystery woman. A woman who was doing the work of the Universe as she was about to connect two individuals living two thousand miles apart.

Mike is the author of “Life in a Week, A Book About Being Really Happy” and the book signing was his own in his home state of Connecticut.

5 days without a television

Posted by Caryn on Jan 27, 2010 in Caryn's writing

Image from Clipartheaven.com

Last Friday evening I had a wonderful dinner with a friend who shared with me that when she and her husband met years ago they had one television set in their home and a small black and white one in the closet outside.  They rarely watched television and when the main TV broke they did not replace it.  Instead if something was important enough for them to want to watch it, they would go outside and pull the small black and white television from the closet, hook it up and have to sit close enough to see the picture on the miniature screen.  Years later they have a television but mainly watch movies on their computer instead of TV shows.  During this conversation I realized how much I had fallen back on having the TV on in the background recently and that my productivity was decreasing as days passed.  I decided right then and there to cut out television totally from my daily life and I voiced my intention to my friend who supported me in my endeavor.

Girl Scout Cookie sales

Girl Scout "Thanks-A-Lot" Cookies

It’s Girl Scout cookie season again and I have to admit those brightly colored boxes lining the tables outside of the stores look absolutely inviting.  I know first hand that the cookies inside each of those boxes are as delicious as the description

on the outside promises.  Each year more and more people are delving into the $4 a box cookies with helpless abandon and devouring an entire box in just one or two sittings and quite frankly, who can blame them as the cookies are simply put, yummy in the tummy!
