When I learned that capital punishment costs the taxpayers more than the room and board they get, I just couldn’t believe it. It’s because of all the litigation and appeals, etc. So who is really punished? My other thought is that we should be doing medical and psychological studies on people who feel compelled to murder, to understand why they do it and hopefully to prevent it. Capital punishment is murder, too, and it won’t bring the victim back, and the lesson of vengeance is really quite bitter.

Comment on Have you danced today?

I almost wrote something here that reflected my sadness this morning when I awoke. Instead, I made a decision that today I will enjoy my husband and granddaughter and life, living each moment to the fullest, as I do almost every day.
Caryn’s note reminded me this morning of something I read several years ago. “If you think you alone can accomplish the dream, then your dream is not big enough.” This is from “Building Your Field of Dreams” by Mary Morrisey.
Caryn’s blog is always uplifting and upbeat, reflecting Caryn’s psyche, energy, love of life, and the building of her own dream for her daughter, her husband and herself.

Caryn,
As a firm believer in capital punishment, I think many murderers get off too easy & we, the taxpayers & some their victims, end up supporting them. I believe that murderers should be put to death in the same manner that they killed their victims – be it drowning, shooting, stabbing, etc. – so that they themselves might experience the brutality of their own actions. It should be the court’s decision whether or not to sentence them to death, but if they do receive the ultimate punishment, then I agree with you wholeheartedly. Maybe with the taking of one life, several others can live.

Caryn, your article provokes much thought and consideration. You raise points that are valid enough for further debate. I’m a Christian who sits on the fence regarding capital punishment. I neither support nor oppose it. If I had to…I might lean toward supporting it. Have you written a book on the subject? I’m guessing that it would create some attention. In any case, my first response to your argument is that the rest of society who does not commit heinous crimes are considered to be the example. We are or should be compassionate. Axe murderers likely never learned compassion. I’m not certain harvesting the organs of people put to death goes beyond what we define as human compassion and respect. Many would argue that the execution of individuals who commit heinous murders is an act of compassion. Society risks placing itself in a compromising position when we push the parameters farther than they need to go. The purpose of the death penalty completes it’s role when the offender draws his last breath. Again, these are merely my initial thoughts on your post.

I can completely relate to this story
I also decided about 2 years ago to leave the corporate world, and worked in the evenings to build my online business.
Then I eventually asked to be laid off, and my request was granted this last April! A little scary, quite rewarding, and never a dull moment!
And next week I begin the launch of my story writing personal transformation program, ‘Inscribe Your Life’ so I’m very excited
One of my friends said it is sort of like a coming out party in a way. Read more...
