When I learned that capital punishment costs the taxpayers more than the room and board they get, I just couldn’t believe it. It’s because of all the litigation and appeals, etc. So who is really punished? My other thought is that we should be doing medical and psychological studies on people who feel compelled to murder, to understand why they do it and hopefully to prevent it. Capital punishment is murder, too, and it won’t bring the victim back, and the lesson of vengeance is really quite bitter.
