Expressing gratitude thru Girl Scout Cookies
February 4th, 2009
I have to admit I am a Girl Scout cookie junkie! I LOVE Girl Scout cookies (especially those Thin Mints)…however, the catch is that I have a medical condition that prohibits me from eating cookies, so what’s a girl to do when approached by all those Girl Scout moms to help their child’s troop and support the Girl Scouts by buying boxes of yummy cookies? Now a normal person would say “just buy them and let your hubby and daughter consume all that delicious goodness.” But, I don’t think it’s fair to make my husband and daughter eat boxes of Girl Scout cookies (of course, they are both laughing as they LOVE cookies and can eat them!).
So this year as mom #101 (yes, we know a lot of Girl Scout families) approached me, I finally broke down and took a peek at the catalog, asking the Universe to provide me with a solution to this issue. “Ask and ye shall receive” – that is exactly what happened as I began peering through the cookie list….one specific cookie name jumped out at me “THANKS-A-LOT” was their name. What is a “THANKS-A-LOT” you ask? Well, according to the Girl Scout catalog the Thanks-A-Lot™ is “A shortbread cookie with a layer of fudge on the bottom and the words “Thank You” in English, French, Chinese, Swahili or Spanish embossed on the top.” How cool is that? A cookie that says “Thank you!” And within a moment, my request was granted and I had my answer.
I purchased multiple boxes of the “THANKS-A-LOT” cookies and off I went. The next week, the cookies came in and I attached a simple note card with a personal expression of gratitude to each box. Then I proceeded to pass those boxes onto several individuals who I felt I deserved a “THANKS-A-LOT.” Their expressions were all priceless, smiles a mile wide, a little extra sunshine to make their day more fun. Plus it always warms my heart to know that my action has made someone else feel good and smile.
With that…I had an answer to my problem…the Girl Scouts were supported in that I purchased boxes of cookies which brought them closer to their goals and my friends knew I cared about them, as I brought a little unexpected joy to that moment in their day, which in turn made me feel good too!
And all of this simply because someone thought to name a box of cookies “THANKS-A-LOT”
In gratitude,
Caryn
