Extraordinary mom ~ from pregnant & homeless to living the life she loves
January 1st, 2010
Adalia John, Extraordinary mom entrepreneur, hypnotherapist, confidence and empowerment coach. She mastered the art of sustaining confidence and courage in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. Adalia went from being pregnant and homeless with her young children to now living the life she loves. Her children are now adults; one of her passion is helping others to shift their thinking and mastering their mindset for more confidence, more clarity, more control and more courage to take action to live their lives in bliss. Today she shares her words of wisdom as part of the “Living the Life of My Dreams” interview series. Welcome Adalia!
Tell us about the path you traveled to arrive where you are today:
I came here from the Caribbean for higher education and I took a detour into another life. I got married and became a mom. My chaotic relationship ended when my husband literally put me, my two children and our belongings on the side walk (I was pregnant). It was the beginning of my enlightening journey. It was the beginning of taking control and letting go of chaos and I loved each and every moment.
I am living the life of my dreams because I woke up and took action to make it real. My vision was to be a mother who was involved with her children’s daily lives at home and at school. I wanted to take them to school and be there to pick them up. I wanted to attend all the school activities.
Being a mom entrepreneur allowed me to have this experience. My awareness brought a myriad of opportunities to light for me to work independently. Some were more financially rewarding than others. Challenges became opportunities for me to grow, obstacles heightened my creativity and hurdles not only made me stronger but influenced me to reach higher. Through it all, one thing remained constant, my commitment to my vision.
My last son graduated from high school June 2009 (I am a single-divorced mother of four). Now that my children have been successfully nurtured into adulthood, I can now focus fully on one of my other passions. What I have innately done over the years, helping women to shift their thinking to master their mindset. A mindset that gives them the confidence to take action to create the vision they have for themselves, their community and their world.
What kept you moving forward on the days things were not going exactly the way you were hoping they would?
Holding firm to the vision of my purpose and I re framed my negative experiences to positives, in doing so, I found something to be grateful for. Two of my boys had asthma and I would express gratitude for the asthma. Why? Because even though asthma was life threatening, it was predictable, manageable and there was a formula to optimized lung function. I assume if something is not going my way, it’s because there is a better way. I assess why it is not working and learn from the experience. If I did my 100 % and it is still did not go my way – obviously the universe had another plan (I only say this if indeed I gave my100 %.) and I welcomed the new experience.
What piece of advice would you give to someone who has decided they would like to live in a world of their own creation?
First and foremost is to have confidence in yourself and your vision and if you lack confidence to take steps to bring it out. Research has show that one of the keys to living the life of your dreams is confidence – not money.
Confidence helps you to remove the clutter so that you can have clarity for the vision of the world you want to create. You will be more fulfilled with a world built on a foundation of your core beliefs, your values, your brilliance and your passion.
Be courageous to take risks, playing it safe keeps you stuck and blind to the limitless opportunities available for you to create your world and embrace your fears – the things you fear the most are the things you absolutely need to do for your success.
What special things do you do for yourself daily to maintain your momentum and energy levels?
These are my daily habits that keep my momentum and my energy level high.
I communicate with one or more of my children daily.
I love to walk – I walk (while listening to books on tape) a minimum of four days per week for at least thirty minutes.
I incorporate exercises in my daily routine and I try to go to the gym 3 times per week.
I have a vision for my life; I write down my goals and never lose sight of my vision.
I pay it forward and in writing – I affirm and show gratitude.
Each and every day I do something to peak my potential.
Intermittently during the day – I take a minute or two to close my eyes and focus on my breathing for relaxation and I habitually stretch and flex my body.
I made a decision long time ago to make happiness my best friend.
If you could spend 3 days on a deserted island with two people of your choosing, who would they be and why?
The only person that comes to mind is my six year old grand daughter. She is funny, curious and I would never have a dull moment.
Who has inspired you and what is it about them that you found inspirational?
My mother has been the most inspirational. She was loving, strong, determined and had an entrepreneurial spirit. She thought outside of the box and one of the first women in my village that exercised her right to have an opinion and stand up to her domineering, abusive husband. My mother inspired me, to love myself in spite of whatever, to stimulate my mind with new thoughts and ideas, to be an entrepreneur and to swim in a sea of endless possibilities.
What do you see in your future?
Outside of my relationship with my children and grandchildren, I will be a published author, inspirational products developer, a motivational speaker, who globally influences women to shift their thinking and transform their lives. Last but certainly not least – to create a non profit for single moms.
Where is your favorite place in the world to spend time, what is special to you about this location?
Mentally, my favorite place to spend time is in my head – in my mind, my experience there is limited only by my imagination.
A physical place – would be anyplace where I can lie on the grass, listen to the birds, look up at the clear blue sky and watch the clouds.
Who has been your greatest support system and how have they shown you their support?
My support system is a team made of my mother, my children and the universe. My mom and my children believe in me and my dreams. Their support has only one condition – that I never stop believing in myself. The universe is my source for all things.
What / who are you most thankful for and why?
I am most thankful for my being, the relationship I have with my children – it is priceless. Just thinking of them energizes me and of course my source for all things – the universe.
What is your favorite way to contribute or give back?
I acknowledge people’s existence. I smile and give a complement. It’s easy, it’s quick and it’s priceless. I have discovered that people are hungry for acknowledgement, for connecting. When I am standing in line somewhere or just someone passing by – If I say “That is a beautiful skirt you are wearing,” I get a smile and a thank you. This is so easy to do. Try it you will be amazed by the response. Make it genuine, there is something positive about everyone.
Please share the top three things you feel people would benefit from doing if they truly desire to create the life of their dreams?
Make happiness your default emotion – no matter what. It does not mean you will not be sad or blue but with happiness as your default programming – you will find a place, a thing, a person, something to pull you through.
Be true to yourself and do not compare yourself to others. If it is not going your way, maybe you are on the wrong highway. Therefore, relax and regroup.
Develop a daily habit of paying it forward, being grateful and loving yourself in spite of whatever.
What products and services do you offer to assist others on their journey?
I do one on one or group coaching to help others to have clarity for their core beliefs, their brilliance, their passion and their purpose. I help them to have the confidence to take action to receive their goals and the courage to take risks and stay laser focused for their vision.
I am also a certified hypnotherapist and I help my clients to use one of the most powerful tools they have for their success, the MIND. Through relaxation, guided imagery and/or visualization, I guide them to let go of limiting beliefs, fears, healing the inner child or whatever holding them hostage and keeping them from living the life of their dreams. We replace these negative influences with new empowering, inspiring and freeing thoughts – at its roots – in the subconscious mind. This allows them to step out of the shadows to embrace their success and finally begin to live the life they love.

Thanks Brian for your kind words – I can tell that you a great person to know. Hypnotherapy is one of the tools I use to help others to improve their lives. However, through conversation, my intuition and my connectivity with others, I am able to guide those who are ready for change – to shift their thinking – to create the vision they have for their personal or professional life. When we change our thoughts, we can transform our lives.
Keep up the transformational work you are doing and I am going to purchase your book.
