Listen to Your Inner Voice
January 13th, 2010
Laurel Clark is the President of the School of Metaphysics, a not-for-profit educational organization with headquarters in Missouri and 15 branches throughout the Midwest. Since 1979 she has been teaching metaphysics to others in a variety of venues. She is a teacher, interfaith minister, counselor, public speaker and author. Today she is here to share her inspiration with us, welcome Laurel!
Tell us about the path you traveled to arrive where you are today: When I was a young child, I knew that there was something important for me to do with my life, but I didn’t know what it was! I’ve always had a lot of interests, including writing, helping other people, art and design, music. I went to college to discover what I was here to do, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with no more idea of my “calling” than when I entered! Then, someone told me about “past life readings” conducted by the School of Metaphysics. At that time, in 1979, no one spoke about past lives. I was curious. I had one done, and instantly knew that it was telling me truth about myself. I became a student of metaphysics, learned how to interpret my dreams, how to develop intuition, how to visualize, how to meditate, how to still my outer mind (the busy chatter) to listen to my inner self. I am now an intuitive reporter myself, an interfaith minister, a counselor, an author, and most importantly, a teacher.
What kept you moving forward on the days things were not going exactly the way you were hoping they would? Optimism and idealism: A belief in divine order, an inner urge to grow and understand, a daily practice of remembering and interpreting dreams for inner guidance, and a daily practice of prayer and meditation for higher guidance.
What piece of advice would you give to someone who has decided they would like to live in a world of their own creation?Formulate clear ideal for yourself and an ideal vision of the kind of world you want to live in. Listen to your inner self. Believe in that inner voice that prompts you and act on it. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “to believe in your own heart that what is true for you is true for all men, that is the mark of genius.”
What special things do you do for yourself daily to maintain your momentum and energy levels?Meditation, visualization, breathing exercises, and yoga.
If you could spend 3 days on a deserted island with two people of your choosing, who would they be and why?Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mother Teresa because they changed the world by being dedicated to God and humanity.
What is your favorite audio material and what do you enjoy most about this material? This changes all the time: every time I listen to something that inspires me, it is my favorite!
What is your favorite reading material and what gives it that special place in your heart?Holy scriptures, mythology, and good children’s literature because it communicates with pictures and symbols and related truth about how to live a virtuous, inspired and holistic life.
Who has inspired you and what is it about them that you found inspirational? My father and mother were the first people who inspired me. My father because he was an educator, he taught me how to spell my first words and inspired my love of reading and writing. He was an excellent speaker, charismatic and humorous. My mother because she was ahead of her time, the first of her sisters to attend college (she was born just one year after women got the right to vote in the U.S.), had an independent life and career before marrying and becoming a mother. She inspired my love for music and writing, rhythm and movement. Both of my parents taught me to be responsible, to care for other people, to think of other people before myself.
What do you see in your future?Teaching, traveling, and bringing into corporations and businesses the education of how to live ideals and how to care for other people. I see that we have a great need, particularly in the United States, to be responsible for the great creative power in our hands. We can create just about anything and need to create for the goodness of all concerned, to think of the benefit for humanity and the planet and the environment, not just for ourselves.
Where is your favorite place in the world to spend time, what is special to you about this location? The College of Metaphysics in Windyville, Missouri. It is an intentional spiritual community, with people dedicated to aiding other people. It is in the country, with delicious, fresh well water, organically-grown produce, cows milked by hand, home-made cheese and butter, rivers, springs, hills, woods, and a world-wide educational program that teaches adults how to live in alignment with Universal Law.
Who has been your greatest support system and how have they shown you their support?Students and teachers of the School of Metaphysics. I have been provided opportunities to write, speak, publish, be on radio and television. Have learned to express myself and have been encouraged to expand into new areas of education.
What / who are you most thankful for and why?All of my teachers, students, and friends. I love people and each encounter with another person is an opportunity to greet the divinity in that person.
What is your favorite way to contribute or give back?Teaching others what I have learned. I am a full-time volunteer. The proceeds of the books I write go to the School of Metaphysics to further its educational services.
Please share the top three things you feel people would benefit from doing if they truly desire to create the life of their dreams? When people are listening to their inner voice and acting upon it, they are fulfilled. They bring their joy into the lives of everyone they meet. This inner joy, expressed outwardly, makes life worth living.
I think that when people are inwardly fulfilled, they do not need to spend money or eat or take drugs or alcohol to be happy. So in an indirect way, living a life of your dreams makes everyone’s life better!
Living the life of your dreams is not so much about what someone does, it is more about who they are being and becoming. I think that a daily practice of inner listening, such as meditation or interpreting dreams, is an important element of knowing who you are so that you can share your real Self with other people.
What products and services do you offer to assist others on their journey? There is a wonderful weekend retreat offered at the College of Metaphysics in Windyville, MO. It’s called Dharma: Finding Your Soul’s Purpose. At this weekend, people can learn what their Dharma is. This is a particular constellation of understanding, the gift you have to give to the world. It is a wonderfully centering experience to KNOW what your life’s mission is and how to fulfill it.
I have written a book on this same topic, called Dharma: Finding Your Soul’s Purpose. You can order the book or register for the weekend at www.som.org.
I have also written a book that helps in formulating an ideal and living it: it’s called The Law of Attraction and Other Secrets of Visualization.

Excellent Story Laurel,
You are leading the way up the right path:-)
I truly enjoyed:
Listening to your inner voice and acting upon it (moving the world forward so to speak) bringing about personal fulfillment and creating an atmosphere that allows others to grow. Also, it is about who they are being and becoming – the process of creation from inside.
Personal empowerment at its best. As Susan said above – Beautiful.
Blessings and Visions of Greatness to YOU and YOURS along with YOUR Students.
