Living life in a mirror

IMG_6332_1Ever wonder what people are thinking when they look at you?  Ironically, it’s probably not the same thing you are thinking…Drew Yacu was hit with his own reflection, feeling unfulfilled and uncertain he took that reflection and turned it into something truly amazing that is now being used to bless many others around the world.  Today, I have the pleasure of sharing my interview with Drew Yacu of Reflect My Life with my readers.  Welcome Drew and thank you for being here!

Living the life of one’s dreams is something many people believe to be a myth….yet; you are living proof that one can achieve this goal… Tell us about the path you traveled to arrive where you are today: I was working in corporate America with a great job financially speaking.  I lived in New York at the time and although I was doing well, I was not happy.  So many times I would prefer not to get out of bed and go to the office.  Work makes up such a large part of one’s life, and I couldn’t imagine having the same set of circumstances for the next 30 years!
Luckily New York is filled with opportunity and I took classes on taking the reigns for myself.  I knew that I had to run the show if I was ever going to be happy.  After chasing money making schemes and falling flat on my face I discovered that the secret to success is to do what you love.  Looking back it’s no secret because all the worlds greatest success stories are insanely passionate about their career’s.
I began working on my path to become an inspirational speaker and writer.  As I was working on my material a friend suggested I try life coaching to see if my stuff was any good!  I reached out to my network and got one client willing to take a chance on me.  We had some amazing sessions but I remember thinking,
“How do I keep inspiring when we’re not on a coaching call?”
I wanted to develop some easy to use tools to help my clients but had no idea what.  I kept working on my personal development, speaking career, and coaching on the side.  Part of my journey was the use of  affirmations.  Positive  statements about a future state that you say are true in the present tense.  They help to get you to where you want to be and are so easy to use.

Spring of 2007 I was saying an affirmation in the mirror and the idea of creating an inspirational tool popped into my head.  At the same instant, an image of a comical t-shirt flashed in my head.  It read

“Reminder, buy more beer”
Backwards!!
The ideas merged and instantly Reflect was born.  Inspirational messages on clothing written in reverse – readable in a mirror!
I was so exited about this product idea that I put the writing and speaking career on pause to explore the concept.  After a few successful test runs it was clear, Reflect was going to take personal development and spiritual growth to the masses.

What kept you moving forward on the days things were not going exactly the way you were hoping they would? Those days are tough, but we have so much belief in what we do at Reflect that going back to an unsatisfying career is not an option.  The dynamic of my sister Caroline and I is such that we keep each other inspired when one of us is feeling down.  These days happen for all of us and the best cure we’ve found is surrounding yourself with positivity – you’ll come out of it fast!

What piece of advice would you give to someone who has decided they would like to live in a world of their own creation?
The best advice I could give comes not from me but from an man who has inspired me over the years.
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and endless plans.  That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise occurred.  A whole stream of events issued from the decision, raising in ones favor all manor of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would come his way.
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, BEGIN IT!  Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

What special things do you do for yourself daily to maintain your  momentum and energy levels? Affirmations!! It’s incredible how getting your head in the right place FIRST makes your entire body follow!!  It also helps to be working on something you love, tends to make your energy levels higher than ever before

If you could spend 3 days on a deserted island with two people of your choosing, who would they be and why?
Esther Hicks – She has inspired me more than any person alive today.  It’s something about her teachings that resonate so deeply with me that every time I read her work I find new insight to life.

Tony Robbins – Tony is incredible the way he connects with hundreds of thousands of people and changes lives dramatically.  Tony speaks at a level that anyone can understand and has such a far reach.  He truly is making an impact.

What is your favorite audio material and what do you enjoy most about this material? Ester Hicks – The Teachings of Abraham.  Esther just speaks to me, and helps me to frame life in new perspectives that I never thought of before.  Living from these new frames does one thing…makes me happier!  After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?
What is your favorite reading material and what gives it that special place in your heart?    I loved Reading these classics about the Universe and how everything works
The Science of Getting Rich – Wallace Wattles
The Master Key System – Charles Haanel
Your Forces and How to Use Them – Prentice Mulford

What do you see in your future?

I see myself speaking, writing, and helping others realize their dreams.  Change is inevitable, growth is , is happiness is attainable.

Where is your favorite place in the world to spend time, what is special to you about this location?
By the ocean, it puts me in a state of peace that I relish in.  I don’t know what it is, but every time I am there I feel fulfilled.

Who has been your greatest support system and how have they shown you their support?
My Family – on a day to day basis it’s my Sister since we work together.  But I also get lots of support from my Parents, Cousins, Aunt’s Uncles, Friends.  It’s truly amazing!  I think it’s a function of how much we believe in what we are doing…tends to be contagious.

What / who are you most thankful for and why?
Wow, this is difficult, but at the end of the day, I thank God for my family.  My Father once explained his love for me that still chokes me up to this day.  He told me if I was in need of a heart transplant and his heart was the only one on earth that would save my life, he wouldn’t hesitate to give it.  I look forward to knowing what that love feels like when I have my own children.

What is your favorite way to contribute or give back?
Teaching, I want to create ambassadors of knowledge and power.  To unlock something amazing in someone and watch them unlock it in someone else.

Please share the top three things you feel people would benefit from doing if they truly desire to create the life of their dreams?

Affirmations – these get you focused on a goal or desire and that brilliant mind of yours does the rest.
Align with like minded people – you must have a support group, we’re not meant to conquer the world alone, we need others to accomplish anything great
Be aware of how you feel, emotions are a great guiding system to get you to where you want to be.  Working in corporate did not feel so great, working for Reflect feels exhilarating so I know I’m on the right path.

Anything I missed that you would like to share?
If you are not where you want to be right now, that’s ok.  I recall a time where I was miserable in my job in New York.  My path out started by finding what I was grateful about in the job.  I wrote down every positive aspect of my work and read it every day.  Soon better projects starting coming my way, new ideas on where I should go, a way out soon emerged.

Creating something from a place of unhappiness never happens.  You have to feel inspired, creative, open to opportunity.  Gratitude is the easiest way to get you there and now it’s a daily practice.

What products and services do you offer to assist others on their journey?
Explore authors for who you resonate with and start reading, getting audio book, watching DVD’s.  Get the knowledge in your head so that you can start creating that dream job – it’s out there and very very possible.

And of course Reflect!  We are in business to assist you on your journey – it’s our calling.  Whether it’s an item of clothing, membership in our upcoming Reflect Coaching Program, or participation in one of our upcoming events.  We are here to make sure you succeed!
