Living your authentic life with Ann Ronan
August 5th, 2009
Ann Ronan, Ph.D. is an author, speaker, certified career coach and self employment expert, and travel lover…and today she is sharing her story with you….
Tell us about the path you traveled to arrive where you are today: I’ve always interested in how people choose their work and how to spend their time –I was determined early on that I wasn’t willing to do work I didn’t enjoy –it took some time and plenty of different jobs and several career and business coaches along the way to get to the place I am now!
The first job I really loved was in health education and then medical education –I stayed in the world of academia for about 15 years and then found myself discontent –it was a divine discontent- powerful! I had known in my 20’s that I wanted to work from home –it took me till I was 42 to do it –and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.
What kept you moving forward on the days things were not going exactly the way you were hoping they would? A combination of getting quiet –going inside to see if I could get a glimpse of what’s next –and taking some action each day to move closer to my goals whether it’s business or personal
What piece of advice would you give to someone who has decided they would like to live in a world of their own creation? Start with a vision –get clear about what you want –you don’t have to know the how’s at all –just know what it will look and feel like to have that. Then take some baby step towards that each day and get support from someone who is already where you want to be.
What special things do you do for yourself daily to maintain your momentum and energy levels? I sleep enough each night –for my body that’s about 8.5 hrs. I exercise almost daily –a walk at the end of the workday and some exercise classes that I enjoy –dancing to music and yoga.
If you could spend 3 days on a deserted island with two people of your choosing, who would they be and why? Barbara Sher, author because she’s got a great sense of humor, I love her philosophy on life and she’s been successful in my field and Ellen DeGeneres –there’s an authenticity that oozes out of her and she’s successful.
What is your favorite audio material and what do you enjoy most about this material? I download and listen to Sunday talks from various Centers of Spiritual Living on my ipod while I walk. While I’m not a traditional Sunday church goer –I do recognize that it is powerful to hear spiritual truths told through many lenses.
What is your favorite reading material and what gives it that special place in your heart? I enjoy reading about entrepreneurs and marketing –can’t get enough –for my own business but also to share with my clients. Anything by Ernest Holmes, Eric Butterworth and Joel Goldsmith –they remind me that the inner world creates the outer world and they state spiritual principles beautifully. Anne of Green Gables was my first favorite book –I could relate to her character –here’s a quote I love from the book
“Isn’t it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive–it’s such an interesting world. It wouldn’t be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There’d be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
- Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
What do you see in your future? Working fewer hours –but never stopping completely –my work and play often merge. More passive income –with systems set up so that I have steady streams of income from services and products that take very little of my time.
Where is your favorite place in the world to spend time, what is special to you about this location? Dana Point harbor –I’m near the ocean, great place for walking, and some great food all right there and Mexico – I have a jewel of a house right on the ocean there.
Who has been your greatest support system and how have they shown you their support? Coaches along the way who helped me create and believe in a higher vision. My husband –believes in me no matter what outer appearances seem to be
What is your favorite way to contribute or give back? I tithe to the spiritual center where I experienced the most personal and spiritual growth ever. I contribute to my community through volunteer work and random acts of kindness
Please share the top three things you feel people would benefit from doing if they truly desire to create the life of their dreams?
1. create a vision board – use a corkboard or poster board and glue –put up images of what you want to be, do, have in your life –look at it daily
2. start letting go of anything that doesn’t make you happy -people, roles you are filling, activities that don’t support you (like too much tv)
3. start with some baby step actions towards things that interest you
What products and services do you offer to assist others on their journey?
