Overcoming binge eating and addiction…

September 2nd, 2009

taliaWLiving the life of one’s dreams is something many people believe to be a myth….yet; you are living proof that one can achieve this goal… Tell us about the path you traveled to arrive where you are today: I was a hopeless compulsive over eater and addict. I once worked at as doctor of psychology specializing in treating women and men with eating disorders and addictions while I suffered from these same issues myself. I searched everywhere for help but no one was able to help me stop hurting myself. Then I met my teacher, Roy Nelson who has helped me to heal. He has a remarkable technique which is one of a kind and helps a person to have freedom from all addictions and also to be able to be thin and healthy without having to diet or exercise. I asked for his help two and a half years ago and the moment I did, I was free of it all. The excess weight literally fell off and I no longer had to use unhealthy sexual relationships, alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, caffeine, compulsive over spending, gambling or anything else. I was totally free!

What kept you moving forward on the days things were not going exactly the way you were hoping they would? What kept me moving even in the rough times was remembering how, no matter what, I was always thankful when I did in the past. What I was eating and using over were feelings, plain and simple. I had no way to deal with and heal from the feelings. Though I thought I had done a great deal of work being a therapist myself, I had not even scratched the surface.

I meditate, pray, eat three meals a day with nothing in between, read daily affirmations and texts to affirm the presence of spirit in my life, all by the grace of god.  I also do everything I can to carry the message to the world that hope and healing is available, even when someone thinks that they have tried it all. I learned to eat three meals a day with nothing in between only by learning to deal with the thoughts and feelings that came up when I was not grazing throughout the day or overeating. I couldn’t stop hurting myself with food or anything else until I found a way to heal from it. No amount of control or exercise could keep me from getting fat.

If you could spend 3 days on a deserted island with two people of your choosing, who would they be and why?  Jesus Christ because he was the greatest spiritual teacher this world has ever known. I would also want Tricia Greaves and Roy Nelson with me because I would want to share the amazing experience with them!

What is your favorite audio material and what do you enjoy most about this material? My favorite audio is Tricia Greaves’, “10 Secrets to Expressing Yourself with Confidence.” You can get this at www.healyourhunger.com. It is my favorite audio because I thought I was outspoken and that I stood up for myself before listening to this  but I was dead wrong, and it was one of the main reasons why I was hurting myself with food, substances and unhealthy sexual relationships. I would either stuff feelings to be a “good girl” and try to get everyone’s attention and approval or I would rage out and “be honest,” with people after the fact. This meant that I would unload years of pent up hostility on the wrong person, or unload it on the “right person” but at the wrong time (or for something that was not a big deal to begin with). If I eat crow or hurt someone then I have to hurt myself. That is just the way it works. This audio helped me to, “say what I mean, mean what I say and not say it mean.”

What is your favorite reading material and what gives it that special place in your heart? Emmet Fox’s daily reading. Even after reading it over a few times, each passage takes on new meaning with each new read.

Who has inspired you and what is it about them that you found inspirational? Roy Nelson because he found a way out of the insanity that I suffered from all on his own, without one of him, 35 years ago and has been able to continue his freedom by sharing it with others since that time.

What do you see in your future?  I see a world where everyone knows about Roy and gets to learn from him, even if they aren’t lucky enough to have an eating disorder or addiction. The truth is when people hear Roy they heal in all areas of their life – financially, romantically, professionally and in their health. I envision having the opportunity to help Roy share his gift with the world by sharing what has happened for me with his help. Specifically I see every newspaper, radio show, television show and magazine running a story about Roy and Tricia. I will be booking Tricia as a speaker at national conferences on eating disorders as an expert on the topic of emotional eating and binge eating disorder. I see doing this every day, for the rest of my life, as a full time job.

Where is your favorite place in the world to spend time, what is special to you about this location? There are many, but I have not visited these places since I have been recovered so I would like to find a new favorite place. I like the beach however. I love swimming in the ocean but being close to any body of water seems to take away burdens and worries. It is very healing.

Who has been your greatest support system and how have they shown you their support? Roy Nelson. He has shown me the most support by taking my calls at ungodly hours. He always says, “people don’t know how much you know until they know how much you care.” That was the case for me. It was lengths that he went to, to help me which really allowed me to trust him to the extent that I needed to, to be able to heal.

What / who are you most thankful for and why? I am most thankful for Tricia and Roy that they have done what they have done and are the people that they are because without them, I most likely would be dead today. I am also thankful that I was fat and a hopeless addict. Without having to overcome it, I would not have the opportunity to have the quality of life that I now do.

What is your favorite way to contribute or give back? Telling the world what has happened for me on account of receiving Roy’s help and using my professional background to highlight the differences between this program and all others (why this works when all other fail).

Please share the top three things you feel people would benefit from doing if they truly desire to create the life of their dreams? Meditate, (use the “A Moment’s Peace” CD available at www.healyourhunger.com), find someone you trust who will not judge you no matter what you say and talk to them daily, and journal. Ideally, find a person to guide you who has what you want. If you find anything worth doing, do it with all your might!

Anything I missed that you would like to share? Tricia Greaves provides three CDs on her website that I recommend for all people: “3 Meal Magic,” “A Moment’s Peace” and “10 Secrets to Expressing Yourself with Confidence.”
