September 11th ~ 8 years later….

September 11th, 2009

Today as I drove my daughter to school we talked about 9-11, as I realized she didn’t know much about this historical event as she was less than a year old when it happened.

As I shared with her my recollection of the events from that fateful day, I fought back tears as we all lost so much 8 years ago today.  We lost family, friends, loved ones, the safety we felt as Americans simply walking down the street and although we are blessed with the ability to have pain and loss lessen as time passes, there are some things that regardless of the time that may pass, will always be with us.

The end of an era

February 25th, 2009

As a child I vividly remember my father taking me to work with him during the holiday season.  We would spend the afternoon surrounded by Christmas decorations, costumed characters, receiving candy canes along with the regular hustle and bustle of the daily work environment.  The highlight for me was when my father was asked to sing and it was as if the world stopped as hundreds of people listened to my father in his beautiful tenor voice, it was beyond quiet and when he finished singing cheers and applause would erupt throughout the building.  These holiday parties went on for years subsiding as security measures became more strict, yet my dad would find way to bring us into the building over the years until he retired and left the area in 1996.
