Dealing With Negative Relatives During the Holidays

I heard a story that someone asked a Polish citizen living under the communist regime if he regarded his Russian comrades as friends or family. “ Family,” he quickly responded.  “You can choose your friends.”  Now with Thanksgiving around the corner, many of us will be face to fork with family and in-laws who may put us in a “fowl” mood (okay, okay, no more of bad turkey puns in this blog entry.)

So how does one face these challenges and keep an optimistic attitude?

I love trains.  For as long as I can remember I experience a small thrill every time I see one.  It doesn’t matter if it is a freight train, a passenger car, light rail or even a kiddy ride at the park, trains hold a special place in my heart.

So when my spouse, CB, announced we had tickets for a journey on the Verde Valley train, I was quite pleased.  The train snakes its way from the quaint Clarkdale station to a scenic ranch in Perkinsville and back.  I’m not writing an advertisement here, so you can visit www.railsnw.com for more information, but suffice it to say it was an incredible and relaxing way to celebrate our 7th anniversary.
