Dealing With Negative Relatives During the Holidays

I heard a story that someone asked a Polish citizen living under the communist regime if he regarded his Russian comrades as friends or family. “ Family,” he quickly responded.  “You can choose your friends.”  Now with Thanksgiving around the corner, many of us will be face to fork with family and in-laws who may put us in a “fowl” mood (okay, okay, no more of bad turkey puns in this blog entry.)

So how does one face these challenges and keep an optimistic attitude?

Why Women Executives and Entrepreneurs Should Look to Mentoring!

By Karel Murray, CSP, DREI

When my son was in third grade, he asked that I participate in a Parent’s Career Day. During my 15 minute segment, I was to explain to his classmates what I did for a living. When I took my place in front of the room, introduced as Ben’s mom who works in a downtown insurance company, I explained that I worked as a boss who managed people in the operational departments of my company. I’m here to testify that a person will never feel so totally hung out to dry until they see a child’s eyes glaze over from boredom or incomprehension.

Loving Yourself. Why is it so important? by Vinil Ramdev

This is a topic that we do not talk about much as a society. Why is it so important to love yourself? Lot of your personality, your success as an individual and your relationships will depend on how much you love yourself.

Several people go through life NOT loving themselves, this is not so obvious to most people. Most of us do not know that we do not love ourselves. This  awareness is not at a very consious level. Since we do not love ourselves, we do not take care of ourselves as much as we should. We abuse our bodies, our systems and do things that are detrimental to our wellness.

April 7th, 2010

My 9 year old daughter found this book next to her favorite Junie B. Jones books in the children’s section of the bookstore.

The product description from Amazon.com reads as “Be confident, be gorgeous, be glamorous. The tips and tricks in this book will help girls reveal the goddess inside. The entries include: how to host a spa-style party; how to work out your face shape; how to design your signature perfume; how to stop biting your nails; how to pretend you’ve got freckles; how to jazz up a boring ponytail; how to get out of a limo; how to give yourself a mini facial; how to emphasise your eye colour; how to make your bedroom skin-friendly; how to get super-soft hands and feet while you sleep; and, how to make a ribbon belt.”
