The Soul Loves to Forgive – It’s Not About Them – It’s About You!

March 3rd, 2010

V Ophelia RigaultForgiveness is something that needs to be learned. I taught myself the art of forgiveness so that I could move beyond the pain and hurt that others had caused me. When I learned to forgive, I opened the door for joy and peace to enter my life and radiate from me to the others around me.

I believe that forgiveness is achieved by consciously deciding to let go of the negativity that emerges when you focus on the pain of past experiences. When you focus on the hurt, you relive it. You perpetuate a connection to the person who caused you pain, giving that person power over you. You become mired in that bad experience and tied to the negative energy that person emits.

If you are honest with yourself, you will realize that you want to sever the link and reverse the negative energy from that hurtful person. Whether from habit or from not knowing how to forgive, many of us hang on to that pain, believing we cannot get past it. But to really be free, you must let go.

Spiritual forgiveness is, for me, about freeing your mind, body and soul from pain or hurt. It is about choosing to seek a deep and joyful connection to the Divine, and breaking the association with the person who hurt you. When you choose not to forgive, you become weighed down with burdens of resentment and anger. You become stuck in one spot, instead of moving forward and living your authentic life to the fullest.

I have learned that by forgiving I am actually entering the safest place with my Divine. In this sacred place, I receive total love, acceptance, and security. Knowing that I am fully united with my Divine, I am able to release the hurt and free myself from pain.

To forgive, you must trust your inner source of light, that manifestation of the Divine living within you. You must follow where that light leads. When you take that first step towards forgiveness, you are on your way to banishing the guilt, anger, resentment and shame that has built up over time. By clearing this spiritual pollution, you are making way for an abundant flow of love, light and joy into the very depths of your heart and soul.

I invite you to try this simple technique for bringing the art of spiritual forgiveness into your life. Take a few deep breaths in and out to calm your thoughts and still your mind.path

Now ask yourself:

What did this person do? Describe it.

Have I ever done something similar? Might I in future?

If so, would I like to be forgiven for that action?

By imagining yourself as the transgressor, you will understand what it is like to want forgiveness. You will be in a position of needing to seek forgiveness from the person you hurt, and from the Divine. You will then learn the value of spiritual forgiveness.

It will take time for certain hurts to go away. With continued practice you will see how much good YOU bring into your world and the world of those around you.

The soul loves to forgive!
