There is life after anorexia

March 9th, 2009

I get a lot of email and letters from people asking me to share more specifically what I experienced while I was anorexic and bulimic.  Some don’t think anyone understands what they are going through, but I do as I have been there myself. What I did learn from my experience is that wherever I focus my mind is where my mind will go. I realize it seems difficult to those who are in the midst of fighting this demon, but the key is to focus on being healthy and strong, both body and soul. I’m not going to kid you and say it was a quick recovery, it was not. There were days when I just wanted to die as I thought that would make the pain go away. I am grateful that I didn’t die and that I am here today to share and encourage others with my story.

When I finally came ‘clean’ and faced the fact that I had an illness that needed to be dealt with, I had already destroyed several relationships and managed to create a load of debt. From the outside, no one could tell as I managed so well…but on the inside I was empty and cold as if my body was hollow. It took a lot of courage to share with my family & friends what was going on…

Having a strong support system was key for me, friends, family and even strangers all heard that I had an eating disorder and that I was recovering, as that was the vision I set as my intention, to survive and thrive and receive the healthy lifestyle I desired and deserved ….and once that intention was set in motion…the Universe had no other option but to provide……

In gratitude,
Caryn
